June 3 (Bloomberg) -- Petrol Ofisi AS, Turkey's largest
chain of gas stations, gained the most in 15 months on
speculation the company's main owner may sell its stake.
Petrol Ofisi shares jumped 70 kurus, or 12 percent, to 6.40
liras as of midday in Istanbul when morning trading ended, the
biggest gain since February 2007. That brought the company's
value to 3.15 billion liras ($2.6 billion).
The shares surged on speculation that Dogan Sirketler Grubu
Holding AS, which owns a majority of Petrol Ofisi, may sell its
stake to partner OMV AG of Austria or another company for more
than the current market price, said traders and analysts
including Toygun Onaran at EFG Istanbul Securities.
``There are no talks to buy a majority stake in Petrol Ofisi from our part,'' Thomas Huemer, a spokesman for OMV, said by telephone from Vienna today. ``We would be interested in slightly
increasing our stake, but there are no plans to get over 50
percent as we are satisfied with the current partnership with
Dogan Holding.''
Dogan owns 54 percent of Petrol Ofisi and OMV holds 41
percent.
Dogan Holding shares posted the biggest gain since July
2006, rising 14 kurus, or 9.5 percent, to 1.62 liras. OMV shares
rose 0.2 percent to 52.50 euros at 12:07 p.m. in Vienna.
Ozge Bulut Marasli, a spokeswoman for Istanbul-based Dogan
Holding, said she had no information on a stake sale in Petrol
Ofisi, and the fuel retailer's press office also declined to
comment.
